Outlier is a museum exhibition that explores adoption from the adoptee’s perspective. While adoption is often portrayed as a purely positive experience, this project sheds light on the complex and sometimes difficult emotions that many adoptees face, including feelings of disconnection, loss, and struggles with identity.

Throughout the exhibition, empty spaces filled with color serve as a visual metaphor for these emotional contrasts. The empty spaces represent the sense of absence or separation from one’s roots, while the vibrant colors symbolize hope, growth, and the potential for reconnection and healing over time.

The accompanying brochure continues this concept through carefully considered layout and typography. Colored boxes highlight quotes from adoptees, giving visual weight to their voices and providing a deeper understanding of adoption beyond common assumptions. By combining imagery, color, and text, the exhibition and its materials create an engaging, thoughtful experience that encourages reflection and empathy.
